Summer is here! I have plans, and most likely you do too!
The weather is great, calendars are packed with vacations, and inboxes suddenly become filled with "Out of Office" replies.
For hiring managers and recruiters, it can feel like the worst time to hire, but it doesn't have to be.
Here are a few simple ways to keep your hiring process moving while everyone enjoys some well-earned time off.
Plan Around PTO
If key decision-makers are taking vacation, schedule interviews before they leave or block time on their calendar for when they return. A little planning now can save weeks of delays later.
Speed Matters
Top candidates aren't taking the summer off. If your interview process takes three or four weeks, don't be surprised if your favorite candidate accepts another offer before you're ready to make one.
Batch Your Interviews
Instead of spreading interviews over multiple weeks, try scheduling them within a few days. Candidates stay engaged, and your team can compare feedback while it's still fresh.
Keep Candidates in the Loop
Even if there's a delay because someone is on vacation, communicate! A quick update like, "Our hiring manager is out this week, but we'll reconnect next Tuesday," goes a long way toward keeping candidates interested.
Use the Summer Advantage
Believe it or not, summer can be a great time to hire. Many companies slow down, meaning less competition for great talent. If you stay responsive, you can stand out.
The Final Wave
Summer is meant for catching waves, not getting caught in the undertow of a slow hiring process.
When hiring stalls, it's easy for great candidates to drift away or get swept up by another opportunity before you have a chance to make an offer.
Stay ahead of the current by planning around vacations, communicating often, and keeping your interview process flowing.
That way, when the next great candidate comes along, you'll be riding the wave... not getting washed out.
